Posted on July 13, 2012

July 13, 2012, Antigonish, Nova Scotia. . . RCMP Eastern Traffic Services conducted a coordinated team based enforcement operation on July 12th.

On Main Street in Antigonish, 22 tickets were issued under the Motor Vehicle Act , 17 charges for Failing to Wear a Seatbelt and five for talking or texting on a cell phone while driving.

The team used an officer in plain clothes to assist with distracted driving enforcement. Corporal Glen Murphy says, “There are still drivers who do not understand the risk involved by talking or texting while driving and not wearing a seatbelt. They are putting their lives and the lives of others at risk.”
Similar traffic safety initiatives have been used across the country by Traffic Service Units with great success.
