RCMP investigate assault

July 5, 2013, Antigonish County, Nova Scotia . . .RCMP investigate an assault in Antigonish.

Today, 12:30 a.m., Antigonish District RCMP responded to a 911 call reporting a possible domestic assault at a residence on Whidden Street. Police arrived at the residence and located an injured 23-year-old female. EHS attended the scene and the female was transported to St. Martha’s Regional Hospital for examination and treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

A male had been seen running from the residence a short time before police arrived. With the assistance of the RCMP Police Dog Service, a 25-year-old male was arrested without incident in a nearby residence. He currently is in police custody and charges are pending. The matter is still under investigation.
