RCMP Conduct Successful Series of Traffic Checkpoints

October 11, 2011, Antigonish, Nova Scotia…Over the 2011 Thanksgiving weekend, Antigonish Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) along with NorthernTraffic Services conducted a series of checkpoints across Antigonish County. These checkpoints are part of an annual driver safety awareness campaign reminding motorists to wear seatbelts and to not use cell phones while driving.

Over the weekend, ten tickets were issued to motorists for not wearing seatbelts. Also, two drivers were arrested for impaired driving. A 20 year-old New Glasgow male and 20 year-old Moncton male are both scheduled to appear in Antigonish Provincial Court to enter pleas.

The Antigonish RCMP would like to thank the public for their continued support in apprehending impaired drivers. It’s your calls that assist us with taking these driver’s off our roadways. We encourage you to call 911 if you suspect that a driver is operating their motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
