Lions Club Child Identification Program

The Antigonish Lion’s Club have been teaming up with the Antigonish RCMP District over the last number of years for the Child Ident Program. RCMP members fingerprint grade primary school children as part of a national child safety initiative to give members a valuable investigative tool when a child goes missing.

The kits include the childs fingerprints along with a place for parents to keep a current photo of their child and a place to tape hair samples for DNA, so that if the child goes missing, police can get the information they need from parents right away.

Such a program is needed, ” with 60,000 cases of missing children reported in Canada last year, it takes a proactive approach toward child safety to make a difference.” (This figure includes runways, parental abductions, stranger abductions and children lured by predators, among others, according to the RCMP Missing Children’ s Registry.
