Nine Impaired Drivers apprehended in Antigonish County in December 2011

Antigonish RCMP apprehended nine impaired drivers throughout the month of December. Fifteen checkpoints were conducted as part of Operation Christmas. Three (7) day suspensions were issued.

Throughout 2011, the Antigonish RCMP laid a total of (94) Criminal Code driving charges consisting of (72) Impaired Driving charges, (10) more for Refusing to Provide a Breath Sample, (10) Driving While prohibited and (2) other Criminal Code driving charges.

Our combined efforts of enforcement and education throughout 2010 appear to have had an impact as the over all numbers for 2011 are down slightly from the total of 109 charges last year.

Over (800) charges were laid and (900) written warnings under various provincial statutes. Police conducted approximately (100) checkpoints in the county.

In 2012, Impaired driving and other forms of aggressive driving will remain a priority with Antigonish District RCMP.
