Antigonish, Nova Scotia, February 29, 2016 . . . Impaired Driving charges are pending against an Antigonish County resident after a motor vehicle stop on Highway 104.

On February 29, 2016, an RCMP Antigonish Detachment Officer initiated a traffic stop during which he observed the driver exhibiting signs of intoxication. Investigation resulted in a 19 year old male resident of Antigonish County being arrested for Impaired Driving.

The male was transported to the RCMP Antigonish Detachment for further investigation, including obtaining breath samples to determine the blood alcohol concentration of the driver. At the conclusion of the investigation, the male provided breath samples that indicated a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit of 80mg%.

The male was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Antigonish Provincial Court on April 20, 2016.

The RCMP are committed to improving road safety by increasing enforcement action against impaired drivers, however, this can not be possible without the support from members of the public. Citizens are asked to call 911 to report suspected impaired drivers, as driving a vehicle while impaired by alcohol or drugs is considered a police emergency.
