Weekend full of events prompts reminder from RCMP

July 12, 2013, Antigonish County, Nova Scotia . . . Heading to Antigonish this weekend? With a large number of visitors expected to be in area for the 150th Highland Games, Evolve Festival and the IWK 250 at Riverside, RCMP are asking people to plan ahead and keep safety in mind.

“We want everyone to have a good time but it is important that people take the steps to plan ahead,” says Sgt. Brian Rehill, Antigonish RCMP. “Celebrations can get out of hand when alcohol is involved.”

Officers will be conducting extra patrols and checkpoints to deter Impaired Driving. If your plans include alcohol consumption, please ensure you take a taxi or have a designated driver.

Antigonish RCMP are taking these extra steps in support of public safety. The festivities will include alcohol related events such as beer tents and house parties throughout the town and county.

RCMP will be exercising strict enforcement with respect to open liquor, loud parties that disturb the tranquility of neighbourhoods, and impaired driving. The fines for illegal possession of liquor is $457.41, public intoxication $123.91, and a violation of the municipal noise by-law is $387.50.
