Antigonish RCMP Media Release

Event #1 -On January 31 2015 at 4:30 p.m., the RCMP Traffic Services attempted to stop a vehicle on highway 104 in the Heatherton area for a minor traffic violation but the driver fled from police at a high rate of speed. The police did not further pursue the vehicle at the time due to the associated risks.

A short time later the fleeing vehicle was seen in the same area now driving in the opposite direction. When the vehicle approached the police vehicle, police had to take evasive action to avoid a head on collision. Police pursued the vehicle and ended the pursuit in the Frankville area arresting the driver. The 48 year old Frankville man has been charged with two counts of operating a motor vehicle while being pursued, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle as well as a number of Motor Vehicle Act offences. He has been remanded to appear in Antigonish Provincial Court on Wednesday February 4, 2015 at 1:30 pm.

Event #2 – On Feb. 2, 2015, Antigonish RCMP charged a 19 year old male with Procuring Liquor for a Person under the age of 19 years, Section 89(1) of the Liquor Control Act. The charges stemmed from an investigation that commenced on January 28th, 2015 at a local school. The male will appear in court on March 18th, 2015 in Antigonish.
