Antigonish RCMP have a steady May long weekend

Police responded to 58 call for service from Friday to Monday. Two impaired drivers were apprehended during that time. On May 19th at approximately 2:00 p.m. after police were called to a disturbance between two men in the community of Paqtnkek. A 43 year old Antigonish County man was arrested and will face charges of impaired operation of a motor vehicle, refusing to provide a breath sample, possession of a weapon dangerous to public and uttering threats. He will appear in Provincial Court on June 27, 2012 in Antigonish.

Early Sunday morning police arrested a 49 year old Antigonish County man on West Street for impaired driving. The man will be in Provincial Court on July 18th to answer to charges of impaired driving and operating with a blood alcohol concentration over 80 mgs/100 ml of blood.

Two 7 day suspensions were issued: the first was given to a 43 year old Antigonish County man who was driving an All Terrain Vehicle on May 20th and the second to a 34 year old Paqtnkek man after being stopped in the community just after midnight on Saturday night.

Police are also seeking the public’s assistance in relation to a suspicious fire Monday night on Cloverville Road. The structure was a mini-home under renovation. The Fire Marshal attend the scene and has determined the fire was intentionally set. Anyone with any information can contact the RCMP at 863-6500 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS(8477).
