Antigonish RCMP has busy weekend

October 1, 2012, Antigonish, RCMP. . .RCMP in Antigonish lodged 22 people in custody over the weekend: nineteen for being drunk in public and two for impaired driving.

Police had extra officers working who were kept busy patrolling streets responding to loud parties, fights and people walking in public with open liquor. The Antigonish Town By-Law officers also conducted joint patrols with RCMP this weekend.

Sergeant Rehill says officers dealt with people that were severely intoxicated. Police attended two calls on Saturday night on the Saint FX campus where two young adult females were injured as result of falling due to their degree of intoxication. EHS took both to St. Martha’s Hospital for treatment.

By-Law officers arrested a 20-year-old man just after midnight on Saturday for Mischief when he was seen walking on Hawthorne Street with a local street sign in his hand. Investigation determined the sign came from a local intersection that had been torn down by the man. He was released with a court date of November 28, 2012 on charges of mischief and theft under $5000.00

Two impaired drivers were also apprehended. A 25-year-old Fredericton man was arrested for Impaired Driving Saturday night on Highway 104 near Exit 32 after he was stopped for driving without any tail lights. The man faces charges of impaired driving and driving a blood alcohol concentration over 80 mgs / 100 ml blood. He will be in Provincial Court in Antigonish on November 28, 2012.

Early Saturday morning a 55-year-old Halifax man was arrested on College Street for Impaired Driving. The man faces charges of Impaired Driving and driving a blood alcohol concentration over 80 mgs / 100 ml blood. He will be in Provincial Court in Antigonish on November 21, 2012.

Both men received 90 day driving suspensions under the Motor Vehicle Act.
