Antigonish RCMP arrest Eastern Passage Man for Impaired Driving

Antigonish RCMP started the long weekend off with an impaired driver on Hawthorne Street Friday night. Police stopped the Halifax County man for a motor vehicle act violation which lead into an impaired driving investigation. The man faces charges of impaired driving and refusing to provide a sample of blood after a demand by a police officer. The man will be in Provincial Court on September 26th to answer to the charges.

RCMP Eastern Traffic Services were in the area over the weekend which resulted in a 56 year old Antigonish County man being arrested for driving while prohibited at a checkpoint on Hawthorne Street Saturday afternoon. He will also be in court on September 26, in Antigonish.

Later Saturday afternoon Traffic Services also issued a 7 day suspension to a 19 year old Antigonish County man after his vehicle was stopped for a passenger not wearing a seatbelt which lead into an impaired driving investigation.

Antigonish RCMP issued (4) Summary Offence tickets over the weekend under the Municipal Noise By-Law for failing to use mufflers in keeping with initially installed mufflers on a new vehicle. Vehicle owners that purchase after factory mufflers need to be aware of municipal and provincial legislation that may prohibited their use.

Section 188 of the Motor Vehicle Act prohibits unnecessary excessive noise such as revving engines, squealing tires and quick loud acceleration. Police are receiving complaints from citizens of excessive noise on East Main Street in the area. Police will be enforcing the town by-law and motor vehicle act.
