An eighteen (18) year old man was arrested early Saturday morning on Main Street after he was stopped by police. He was escorted to the RCMP detachment to provide breath samples. He faces charges of impaired driving and operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration over 80 mgs/100 ml of blood. He was released on a Promise to Appear with a court date of December 4, 2013.

A short time later a twenty-three (23) year old man was arrested early Saturday morning on Alex Terrace after he was stopped by police. He was escorted to the RCMP detachment to provide breath samples. He faces charges of impaired driving and operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration over 80 mgs/100 ml of blood. He was released on a Promise to Appear with a court date of December 11, 2013.

Ten people were issued Summary Offence tickets for being drunk in public, all spent the night in custody. In addition, 5 people were charged with illegal possession of liquor.

Police only received four calls regarding noise the majority of which were in the afternoon. Police were able to deal with the matters without issuing tickets under the noise by-law.

RCMP and the Antigonish Town By-Law Enforcement Officers conducted pro-active visits to addresses of interest prior to the weekend to educate the tenants on consequences of hosting large parties. These visits in conjunction with high police presence appears to have paid dividends.

Police have received positive feedback from town residents on the police presence over the weekend.
