Antigonish RCMP apprehend Impaired Drivers Over the Weekend

On Saturday afternoon RCMP arrested a Livingstones’ Cove man for impaired operation of vessel after he was checked when he docked in the community. The man will appear in Provincial Court on August 1, 2012 to enter a plea on charges of impaired operation of a vessel and operating a vessel with a blood alcohol concentration over 80 mgs.

Early Saturday morning RCMP arrested a 27 year old Antigonish County man for impaired operation of a motor vehicle. The man has been remanded in custody and will appear in Provincial Court in Port Hawkesbury this morning. The man faces multiple charges from Saturday night including resisting arrest, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, evading police, driving while prohibited, several charges of breach of undertaking and theft of a motor vehicle. He also has several charges from previous incidents that he was wanted on for failing to appear on his court dates.

Traffic Services conducted a checkpoint Saturday night on Beaver Meadow Road checking approximately 20 vehicles issuing two (7) day road side suspensions.

On another initiative on distracted driving on James Street Thursday afternoon six driving while using a cell phone tickets were issued.
