Antigonish RCMP advise public of telephone scam

January 11, 2012, Antigonish, Nova Scotia…Antigonish RCMP would like to advise the public of a telephone scam in the Antigonish area.

On January 10th, 2012, RCMP were advised that some Antigonish residents were receiving phone calls from a person falsely identifying themselves as a representative of a local company. The caller told each person they won a trip to Florida for being a loyal customer. The caller then asked for a credit card number and expiry date. The RCMP want to advise the public that this is a scam.

The RCMP is reminding the public not to give out any personal information over the phone and to report any suspicious calls to your local police or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre Phonebusters at 1-888-495-8501 or
