Antigonish RCMP Media Release – Request help to identify driver

Antigonish RCMP are asking for the public’s assistance to identify a driver involved in pedestrian involved collision

On October 24th at approximately 9:45am a young woman was struck by a vehicle in the crosswalk at St. Ninian and West Streets while walking toward St. FX University. The victim did not sustain any injuries due the low speed and minimal impact. The driver briefly spoke to the victim to ensure she was not injured but drove away afterward without disclosing her name or information.

The vehicle was described as a charcoal grey four door car driven by a female driver described as late 60’s to early 70’s with white hair, wearing glasses and average height.

Police are asking the driver and any witnesses to this incident to contact the Antigonish RCMP at 902-863-6500.

Antigonish RCMP Media Release – Investigation – Damage to Police Vehicles

Antigonish RCMP investigate damage to police vehicles

October 24, 2014, Antigonish, Nova Scotia . . . Antigonish County RCMP are investigating an overnight incident where four police cruisers had a tire slashed.

At approximately 12:40 a.m., RCMP discovered that 4 marked RCMP vehicles had been damaged. Four vehicles had a tire on each slashed while parked in the Detachment parking lot. This is very concerning to the Detachment Operational Commander. “Police vehicles are needed to respond to emergencies and save lives and such criminal acts impact public safety. People should be concerned about this” stated Sgt. Brian Rehill. The vehicles have been returned to operational status at this time.

Antigonish RCMP Media Release – Impaired Driver Arrested & Several Lodged for Drunk in Public Over Weekend

Antigonish RCMP arrest Impaired Drivers and Lodge Several for Dunk in Public over the weekend

RCMP arrested a 52 year old Port Hastings man Friday evening on highway 104 after receiving a 911 call of a possible impaired driver. The man was taken into custody and escorted to the RCMP detachment to provide samples of breath. He was held in custody overnight and released this morning on charges of impaired driving and driving with a blood alcohol concentration over 80 mgs. He will be in court on December 3rd for plea.

Police issued (10) summary offence tickets under the Liquor Control Act and lodged (13) people in cells.

Police also responded to several noise complaints related to loud parties many of which were during the day on Saturday afternoon.

Antigonish RCMP Media Release – Strict Enforcement Homecoming Weekend

Antigonish RCMP will exercise strict Enforcement

STFX Homecoming takes place this weekend here, in Antigonish and the RCMP would like take this opportunity to wish all students and alumni a safe and happy weekend.

Historically, this weekend brings with it loud parties and high alcohol consumption in public places. Police want to educate those participating on the consequences of engaging in such activity – Illegal Possession of Liquor carries a fine of approximately $465.00 and a violation of the Noise By-Law is $387.50.

Police will be on patrol in both marked and unmarked cars exercising strict enforcement.
