Antigonish RCMP apprehend an Impaired Driver involved in crash – 7th of the month

Antigonish RCMP arrested a 41 year old Southside Harbour man yesterday afternoon after he was involved in a crash at the roundabout at exit 32 and Highway 7. Police had just received 911 call of a possible impaired driver followed by a second call of the crash at roundabout. The man was held in custody overnight and will be appearing later today before a judge in Port Hawkesbury. He faces charges of impaired driving and failing to comply with a demand to provide breath samples.

Over the weekend a 33 year old Maryvale man was arrested after police stopped him on James Street. The man exited his vehicle and fled on foot. He was apprehended a short time later and escorted to the Antigonish detachment. He faces charges of impaired operation of a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration over 80 mgs / 100 ml of blood, resisting arrest and operating a motor vehicle without valid insurance. He will appear in Provincial Court in September 25th, 2013.

This is the 7th impaired driver of July for Antigonish RCMP.

Break, Enter and Theft

During the early morning hours on Sunday July 21st 2013, unknown suspects entered the Airsaig lighthouse and gift shop in Airsaig Antigonish County. Suspects gained entry through a window and damages were caused as a result. Once inside they stole several food items and several tee shirts. A vending machine on site of the Airsaig Harbor was also damaged extensively as suspects attempted to gain entry to it as well. RCMP are currently reviewing video footage from the area and the matter is still under investigation.

Impaired driver arrested after evading police

July 21, 2013, Havre Boucher, Nova Scotia . . . Antigonish RCMP arrested a man for impaired operation of motor vehicle after evading police.

On July 21st, at approximately 11:15 p.m., Antigonish District RCMP received a call of a vehicle on highway 104 driving erratically near Havre Boucher. The vehicle was traveling eastbound and took exit 38 at Havre Boucher. Police located the vehicle and attempted to stop it but the driver refused to stop for police. Based on a risk assessment to the public the pursuit was terminated.

A short time later a second 911 call was received regarding the same vehicle. RCMP intercepted the vehicle and were able to maneuver the car off the road west of Monastery. The driver was arrested for Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle without incident.

One RCMP officer sustained minor back injuries during the incident and was transported to St. Martha’s Hospital by ambulance and was later released. Two police vehicles sustained damage as did the suspect’s vehicle.

Ryan Alexander McAloney, 21, from Greenwood, Nova Scotia will be appearing in court this morning on charges of Impaired Driving by Drug, Flight from Police Causing Bodily Harm, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle and two counts of Breach of Probation. The investigation is continuing and additional charges may result.

Antigonish RCMP have busy weekend with Evolve and IWK 250

Police received 72 calls for service over the weekend and lodged 15 people in cells. Three impaired drivers were apprehended and another was issued a seven day suspension. Four people were arrested for possession of a controlled drug, three for possession for the purpose of trafficking and two for trafficking a controlled substance. Five were arrested for drunk in public.

RCMP investigating Attempted Murder in Antigonish County

July 18, 2013, North Grant, Nova Scotia . . . Antigonish RCMP are currently investigating an Attempted Murder incident that occurred late on Tuesday evening.

On July 16th, at approximately 11:40 p.m., Antigonish RCMP responded to a call of an assault in progress at a residence in North Grant. Preliminary investigation revealed that a 55-year-old female had been assaulted by a 49-year-old resident of the home in North Grant. The victim who escaped the residence during the assault sustained minor injuries. The victim and suspects are known to each other.

On July 17th, at approximately 12:30 a.m., RCMP arrested the suspect at his residence without incident, he remains in custody. Sterling Robert PARTRIDGE 49, appeared in Provincial Court this morning for a show cause hearing on charges of attempted murder, forcible confinement, assault with a weapon, uttering threats, sexual assault and two counts of unsafe storage of a firearm. He has been remanded in custody until July 19, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. when he will appearing in Provincial Court in Port Hawkesbury for a decision on whether he will be released on conditions or held in custody. The investigation is continuing.
