Antigonish RCMP apprehend Impaired Driver over the weekend

Antigonish RCMP arrested an 18 year old Inverness County woman on James Street early Saturday morning for impaired driving. The woman will face charges of impaired driving and operating with a blood alcohol concentration over 80 mgs. She will appear in court in Antigonish on September 15th, 2012.

Antigonish RCMP Investigate Break and Enter

Antigonish RCMP are investigating a break and enter at Student Computers on Main Street, Antigonish. In the early morning hours of Wednesday, July 25th, one of the business’ windows was forced open and approximately $15,000 worth of merchandise was stolen. Antigonish RCMP are continuing their investigation.

Outdoor Marihuana Grow Operations

The Antigonish RCMP are reminding the public to be aware of outdoor marihuana grow operations in the county. Police are asking the public to be aware of any suspicious vehicles parked on remote trails or service roads. Other indicators of a possible grow operation are the appearance of pails, fertilizer bags, topsoil and gardening tools in remote areas. If you have information related to outdoor grow operations or do encounter what appears to be an outdoor grow operation, do not enter into the area as they are often booby trapped. Please note the location, obtain GPS coordinates if possible and contact the Antigonish RCMP or CrimeStoppers.

Antigonish RCMP Media Release – Drug Seizures

Drug Seizures

Antigonish RCMP and the Antigonish/Guysborough Street Crime Enforcement Unit seized quantities of hydromorphone, marihuana, mushrooms, LSD and ecstasy from several subjects at the Evolve Festival in Black Avon over the weekend. A 22 year old Dartmouth man was arrested at the site and faces charges of possession of LSD, ecstasy and marihuana. A 24 year old Quebec man was also arrested and faces a charge of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking. Both males will appear in Antigonish Provincial Court in September to answer to the charges.

Antigonish RCMP have relatively quiet weekend despite huge influx of people

Antigonish RCMP despite an influx of close to 15,000 people into the County for the Evolve Festival and the IWK 250 at Riverside Speedway had a relatively quiet weekend. Police received 58 calls for service.

Police lodged 10 prisoners over the weekend, 6 for Liquor Control Act offences, 1 for impaired driving, 1 for assault, 1 for break & enter and 1 for possession of a controlled substance under the Controlled Drug and Substances Act.

An 18 year old PEI man faces charges of impaired driving and driving with a blood alcohol concentration over 80 mgs after he collided with a Transportation and Public Works grader on the Black Avon road Friday morning. The passenger in the vehicle received minor injuries, he was treated and released at St. Martha’s Hospital. The man will appear in Provincial Court on September 26, 2012 for plea.

A 19 year old Halifax man faces charges of break and enter into a residence on the Meadow Green Road near the Evolve site. The man remains in custody and will making a court appearance this morning.

A 24 year old Quebec man is also in custody after he was arrested for possession of a controlled substance under the Controlled Drug and Substances Act at the Evolve site. He will be released on a recognizance with a surety to appear in Provincial Court here in Antigonish on September 19, 2012.

Early Saturday morning police were called a sudden death on the Summerside Road in Bayfield. Justin Douglas OHARA, 39 of Antigonish County died after the tractor he was operating to cut grass along the shoulder of the road rolled over into a ditch pinning him underneath. The Medical Examiner’s office will be performing an autopsy today to determine cause of death. The matter is still under investigation.
