**Amendment ** Please be advised that the initial RCMP Media Release on vehicle damage provided, May 16th, 2012 had an incorrect occurrence date. Please note that damage to the vehicle occurred on May 10th. The Antigonish RCMP apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Antigonish RCMP are investigating the damage to a Red Chevrolet Tracker that was parked on Highway 4 in Afton on May 10th, 2012 between 1:00 pm and 1:15 pm. All windows in the vehicle had been smashed.

Antigonish RCMP apprehend impaired driver overnight

Antigonish RCMP arrested a 32 year old Truro woman Monday night for impaired driving after she was stopped in Paqtnkek. The woman was released this morning and will appear in Provincial Court on July 11, 2012 to answer to charges of impaired driving, operating with a blood alcohol concentration over 80 mgs and breach of undertaking.

Antigonish RCMP are investigating a suspicous fire, at the structure commonly referred to by locals as the “Lime Shed”, in Maryvale that occurred in the afternoon of Saturday, May 12th, 2012.

Antigonish RCMP Investigate Motor Vehicle Fire

On Thursday May 3rd at approximately 9:00pm a white 2012 Ford Focus ignited in flames on the 104 highway heading west bound towards Antigonish at the Dagger Woods intersection. The driver of the vehicle escape without injury. Traffic was stopped in both directions for approximately 20 minutes to allow the fire department to extinguish the vehicle. The matter is still under investigation.

Antigonish RCMP seek public assistance related to mischief

April 26, 2012, Antigonish, Nova Scotia…Antigonish RCMP are seeking the public’s assistance related to incidents of mischief in the area.

Since April 24th, 2012, stop signs, parking signs and manhole covers have been removed in the area of Highland Drive, Greening Drive and Bantry Lane.

Removing street signs or manhole covers pose a serious threat to public safety as a vehicle or pedestrian encountering one of these situations could result in injury or worse.

These offences are punishable by the Criminal Code. Anyone with information on the person(s) responsible are asked to contact the Antigonish RCMP Detachment at 863-6500, Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS ( 8477 ), texting TIP202 + your message to “CRIMES” (274637) or by Secure Web Tips at www.crimestoppers.ns.ca . Seniors’ Safety Coordinator

The Antigonish Town & County Crime Prevention Association is seeking
applications for the contract position of a Seniors’ Safety Coordinator.
This position will be for six months, with a possible contract extension. The
Coordinator will work out of the Antigonish RCMP Detachment.

Applicants will be subject to applicable screening and administrative testing. A
police clearance and a valid Nova Scotia driver’s license are essential. Salary will
commensurate with skills and experience.

Mischief to Property

At approximately 5:30pm several youth were playing with matches in a field behind the Antigonish Education Center in Antigonish County. As a result a grass fire was started and quickly got out of control. Antigonish County Fire Department responded and was able to control the blaze. RCMP have dealt with those responsible for the fire.

RCMP Antigonish would like to remind people to always check with their local municipalities on regulations for fires in their area prior to burning. With summer comes warmer temperatures and dry conditions which can lead to out of control fires putting everyone at risk.

Antigonish RCMP is investigating a break and entry into the Antigonish Education Center located at 30 Appleseed Drive in the County of Antigonish. The culprit or culprits gained entry by smashing a window at the rear of the school. The break and enter occurred sometime around 12:45 a.m this morning April, 16th 2012.
