Antigonish RCMP advise public of telephone scam

January 11, 2012, Antigonish, Nova Scotia…Antigonish RCMP would like to advise the public of a telephone scam in the Antigonish area.

On January 10th, 2012, RCMP were advised that some Antigonish residents were receiving phone calls from a person falsely identifying themselves as a representative of a local company. The caller told each person they won a trip to Florida for being a loyal customer. The caller then asked for a credit card number and expiry date. The RCMP want to advise the public that this is a scam.

The RCMP is reminding the public not to give out any personal information over the phone and to report any suspicious calls to your local police or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre Phonebusters at 1-888-495-8501 or www.phonebusters.com

Antigonish RCMP Lay Impaired Driving Charge after two vehicle crash

A 48 year old Antigonish man faces charges of impaired driving and operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol ratio over 80 mgs after he was involved in a two vehicle crash where he rear ended another vehicle on Hawthorne Street last evening at approximately 4:20 p.m.

The man was held in custody overnight and released on a Promise to Appear in Provincial Court on March 7, 2012.

No one was injured in the crash.

Antigonish RCMP are investigating vandalism to a motor vehicle that was parked behind the Wheel Restaurant on Saturday night January 7, 2012. The vehicle had it’s windshield smashed. Anyone with any information is requested to call Antigonish RCMP.

Antigonish RCMP are investigating a hit and run that took place on Sydney Street in Antigonish on January 10, 2012 at around 12:45 p.m. A silver Jeep was damaged by the driver of a green vehicle which proceeded to leave the scene without notifying the owner of the Jeep.

Antigonish RCMP Investigate Suspicious Boat Fire

On Sunday December 18th, 2011
Antigonish RCMP responded to a boat fire in New France Antigonish County. The 22 foot pleasure craft was a complete loss. Police are treating the fire as suspicious and are seeking the public’s assistance.
